Fun Valley grows, changes with racing
Fun Valley - a long-time winter wonderland on the prairie - is now a summer (and spring and fall) area.
The Bryan family, who run Fun Valley, has changed its focus. Fun Valley for 39 years was a haven for ski and tubing enthusiasts, but the skiing and tubing equipment has been sold.
Fun Valley actually began hosting motocross and quad races during the summer months of 2004.
Fun Valley hosted the Iowa District 22 motocross race series with three races the first year and have 12 scheduled for the 2010 season.
Fun Valley sits atop about 87 acres of ground and offers the potential for expansion into a variety of recreational activities.
They are busy from April through the fall months at the facility southwest of Montezuma with AMA/ATVA sanctioned race events. These events bring in amateur and pro riders to test their skill on the facility's hills. Where skis and snowboards once were swooshing down in the snow, there are now motorcycles and quad riders "rooster tailing" the dirt.
The facility has a mile-long track with double and triple jumps, whoops section, table top and turns going up and down the hills for all riders from ages 5 years to 50+ years.
Motocross and quad racing is expanding in popularity, and the management team at Fun Valley is trying to land a nationally televised race on an annual basis.
Fun Valley offers camping during their races and throughout the summer and fall months. There are eight electric hookup campsites and two that include water that are available for a small nightly fee and can be reserved with a phone call.
There is a 5000-square foot air conditioned lodge with a full kitchen available for receptions, reunions and parties. You can bring in food, or catering can be provided.

Racers need to compete in a minimum of 8 races to qualify for the 2010 Fun Valley Series Championships. Races run from April - October. Registration is 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Races start at 10:30 a.m. Any rider holding an AMA/ATVA membrship and District 22 membership can participate. Admission for spectators/riders is $9 one day or $15 for a two-day pass.
Any practice days only the fee is $20 for the rider and the spectators are free.
